BOOK RELEASE: Jackie Tileston included in Two X Two X Twenty - Celebrating Contemporary Art at the DMA

September 17, 2018 - Dallas Museum of Art

TWO X TWO X TWENTY celebrates the 20th anniversary of TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art, an annual art auction hosted by Cindy and Howard Rachofsky with proceeds equally benefitting the DMA and amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research. The book catalogues the eclectic contemporary artworks acquired for the Museum from these proceeds, including pioneering abstract and conceptual art and the work of younger artists challenging the conventions of artistic practice.

Acquisitions have included the complete set of editions to date by Gerhard Richter, works by important artists in the Japanese avant-garde groups Mono-ha and the Gutai Art Association, and selections from the DMA’s impressive holdings of film and video art. It also includes a painting by Jackie Tileston acquired by the DMA from Holly Johnson Gallery in 2006. The book includes an essay by Anna Katherine Brodbeck, the Nancy and Tim Hanley Associate Curator of Contemporary Art, illustrating the auction’s impact on the museum and the Dallas arts community, especially by the exhibitions it has made possible and the relationships it has fostered over twenty years.
